If you are reading this page, it probably means you are in the process of making an excruciating decision. There comes a point for all pets where medical management is not enough, and we need to objectively decide if it’s time for humane euthanasia. Our veterinarians will give you their honest recommendations, but only the owner can decide what poor quality of life looks like for their pet– for some it’s when their pet can’t enjoy their favorite game, while for others it’s when their pet stops eating and drinking. Quality of life surveys help us see through our emotions to guide our decision making process.
The link below will take you to IAAHPC, International Association for Animal Hospice and Palliative Care. Their site has many surveys, guidelines, and grief support resources that may help you.
My Best Friend also makes a donation to the University of Missouri Veterinary Health Center in honor of each patient who passes, allowing their memory to support the care of other pets.
